GPS for the Soul – The Huffington Post
I Survived A Week Without My Smartphone
For some, having no phone — even for just a few hours — feels like the end of the world. So what’s it like to say goodbye to text, email and Instagram for an entire week?
After living in “the olden days, like a character from ‘Downton Abbey,'” comedian Mark Malkoff told HuffPost Live’s Caroline Modarressy-Tehrani how he survived.
“There are so many things I took my phone for granted that I just really wasn’t aware of — just getting around New York with GPS, texting my wife, which I normally do, and even meeting up with people. Plans change, which happened Sunday at 10:40. Somebody didn’t show up. I couldn’t check my phone, I couldn’t check my email, so I had to use a pay phone,” Malkoff said.
Missing out on offering his daily status updates to his friends, fans and followers, Malkoff went out to Times Square and shouted his status to tourists.
“Hello New York, these are my status updates,” Malkoff shouted through a megaphone. “I can’t do Facebook on my phone. This is all I got, people.”
